dog sniffs late summer
flowers, prey, and rivals in 
cool air after storm

behold the bluewings,

impatiens, begonias

on our balcony

we looked at, stood in

front of trees at the Nation-

-al Arboretum

few sunflowers near
lake hold petals, most neighbors’ 
heads are bald and dry

pre-storm twilight (not
a… midnight sun) near lake,
flowers among grass

saw white snapdragon
last night. did not see yellow
one nearby. it’s gone.

tiger lilies bloom
into perfect arrangement
…on-brand for Reston

new yellow neighbor,
(hyacinth? close relation?)
maybe also wilted

April showers brought
these May flowers. forgot to
post them. they wilted.

wet cherry blossom
hanging on after others
fell off and rotted
